"Quoted" - Part 4

Aug 31, 2025    Adam McCain

In Part 4 of Hill City’s series “Quoted”, Pastor Adam dives into one of the most well-known and misused verses in the Bible: Matthew 7:1 – “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.” This powerful message explores how Jesus’ words have often been taken out of context, misquoted to excuse sin, or misunderstood as a call to avoid accountability. Instead, Pastor Adam explains that Jesus is not forbidding correction, but rather condemning harsh, hypocritical judgment while inviting us to care for one another in love. By studying Matthew 7 in the context of the Sermon on the Mount, we discover that Jesus calls us to humility, self-awareness, and restoration, not condemnation.

This sermon challenges us to live out the Kingdom lifestyle by first examining our own hearts before seeking to help others. Pastor Adam teaches the “God ways” of correction: checking ourselves, approaching others up close with love, refusing to assign motives, applying the Golden Rule, and knowing when not to waste wisdom on mockers. At Hill City, we believe that rightly understanding and applying this passage has the power to heal church hurt and build a stronger, healthier community of believers. Join us in discovering how to walk in mercy, discernment, and grace as we continue our series on the most quoted verses of Scripture.
