People Issues

In this sermon, we explore Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 5:20-48, where He challenges us to exceed the righteousness of the Pharisees, who were viewed as the most "righteous" by the Jews. While the Pharisees emphasized strict adherence to the law, Jesus exposes their hypocrisy, urging us to look beyond outward actions and address the inner issues of the heart. Jesus' message is clear: true righteousness isn’t about merely following rules but about a transformation from within that leads to genuine love for others. By confronting these internal sins, we understand God’s heart and His desire for us to value others as His creation. Whether it’s controlling our anger, avoiding lustful thoughts, or honoring our commitments in marriage, Jesus calls us to a higher standard of integrity and love that goes beyond surface-level obedience.

Jesus challenges us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. By valuing and loving even those who wrong us, we reflect the perfect love of our Heavenly Father.
