The REASON Jesus Chose to Ride a Donkey | Palm Sunday 2025

Today marks the beginning of Passion Week — the final week of Jesus’ earthly ministry leading to His crucifixion. The Gospels place enormous weight on this moment, with nearly a third of their chapters dedicated to these seven days. The week begins with the Triumphal Entry, where Jesus rides into Jerusalem not on a warhorse, but on a humble donkey. The crowd welcomed Him with palm branches and shouts of “Hosanna,” recognizing Him as the promised Messiah, though many expected a military leader who would conquer Rome by force. Instead, Jesus' mission was something greater — going to war with the flesh nature that lives inside of us.

The choice of a donkey wasn’t random; it symbolized how Jesus was operating on the Earth. He came to offer us peace and salvation, and to live among us in humility and servanthood. The donkey also fulfilled Zechariah’s prophecy, in Zechariah 9:9, proving that Jesus moved in both the spiritual and the supernatural. This moment was a public declaration of His mission and a preview of the life He calls us to: one marked by surrender, humility, and faith in God’s power beyond the natural. For those lacking peace, living passively, or distant from the supernatural, the invitation is open — Jesus offers peace with God, strength in humility, and a life empowered by the Holy Spirit.
