The One Thing You Yet To Do

n Luke 18:18-23, a rich man approaches Jesus, seeking validation for his adherence to the commandments, asking what more he needs to do to inherit eternal life. Jesus responds by questioning the man's understanding of goodness, revealing that only God is truly good. Despite the man's claim of following the commandments since his youth, Jesus exposes an area of his life still untouched: his possessions. Jesus tells him to sell everything and give it to the poor, offering him treasure in heaven and a chance to follow Him. The man, unable to part with his wealth, becomes sad, revealing his true attachment to his riches. Jesus then emphasizes the difficulty for the rich to enter God's kingdom, illustrating that salvation is impossible by human effort alone, but with God, all things are possible. Jesus offers a new life—one of surrender—where true rest and fulfillment are found not in the things we hold on to, but in surrendering everything to Him.

Guest Speaker Quinton Carter challenges us to reflect on the parts of our lives we haven't fully surrendered to Jesus. We often compartmentalize our lives, giving God parts but not the whole, holding on to areas that keep us captive. Whether it's our relationships, finances, or personal ambitions, if Jesus doesn’t have full control, those areas may be holding us back. True freedom comes when we let go and allow Him to be Lord over every part of our lives. As Jesus calls us to die to ourselves, it’s a call to lay down everything—not just what we dislike, but even what we love, trusting that He will give us a life far beyond our own plans.
