Correction VS Criticism? | Power of the Tongue |
At Hill City Church, we believe in the incredible power of words, a truth deeply rooted in Scripture. In our recent sermon, we explored how God created the entire universe through His spoken word, as detailed in Genesis 1. From the creation of light to the formation of the earth, seas, and all living beings, God's word brought everything into existence. However, in Genesis 3, we see how Satan attempted to destroy what God had established by criticizing and questioning His word. We reflected on the importance of resisting such evil, emphasizing that if Adam and Eve had stood firm against Satan's criticism, we would still be living in paradise. This message is especially relevant for us at Hill City Church, where we celebrate the unique work God is doing in our diverse, multi-racial, and multi-generational community.
Our sermon also focused on the critical difference between criticism and correction. Criticism, often fueled by fear, leads to insecurity and rebellion, as illustrated by the stories of Absalom's revolt against David and the Israelites' complaints that kept them from the Promised Land. On the other hand, biblical correction, rooted in faith, brings vision, hope, and growth. We are called to govern our words wisely, using them to bring life, healing, and encouragement to those around us. As James 3 and Matthew 12 remind us, our words have eternal consequences, and we are challenged to speak in ways that build others up and inspire greatness. At Hill City Church, we are committed to being a Word-based, Spirit-led community that uses our speech to align with God's purpose and further His work in the world.
