Learn About the Powers God Gives ANY Believer! |
The Power Gifts, as outlined in 1 Corinthians 12:7-11, are supernatural gifts given by the Holy Spirit to believers for God's glory. These gifts include the message of wisdom, the message of knowledge, faith, healing, miraculous powers, prophecy, distinguishing between spirits, speaking in tongues, and interpretation of tongues. Each gift serves a distinct purpose, equipping believers to operate beyond natural abilities and demonstrate God’s power. Throughout Scripture, we see these gifts in action—Jesus offering divine wisdom, Peter’s shadow healing the sick, Philip being supernaturally transported, and Agabus prophesying a famine. These gifts affirm Jesus' promise in Mark 16:17-18 that signs and wonders will follow those who believe.
The Bible provides clear directives on how spiritual gifts should be pursued and practiced. Believers are instructed to eagerly desire these gifts (1 Corinthians 12:31) and to use them in faith, overcoming any fears that may hinder their use. However, the motivation behind these gifts must be love, as emphasized in 1 Corinthians 13:1-2—without love, the gifts of the holy spirit are meaningless. Additionally, these gifts are given to strengthen and build up the church (1 Corinthians 14:26), ensuring that their exercise contributes to unity and encouragement among believers. Spiritual gifts are not for personal gain but for the collective edification of the body of Christ, demonstrating God’s sufficiency through His Spirit.
Furthermore, spiritual gifts must be exercised in an orderly and biblical manner. Paul instructs in 1 Corinthians 14:39-40 that while prophecy and speaking in tongues should not be forbidden, they must be practiced fittingly and in alignment with God’s Word. Misuse or disorder can lead to confusion, which contradicts the purpose of these gifts. Believers are also encouraged to "fan into flame" the gifts of God within them (2 Timothy 1:6), actively growing in their spiritual walk and seeking God's empowerment. When properly embraced, these gifts become a powerful testimony of God's presence, drawing people to Christ and reinforcing the truth of the Gospel through demonstrations of His power.
