Barriers to God’s Supernatural Power, and How to Remove Them

In this message, we examine the barriers that hinder believers from experiencing the supernatural life God intends for them. The Bible promises that believers are empowered by the Holy Spirit, living with a supernatural authority over sin, temptations, and earthly limitations (Acts 1:8). However, obstacles like unforgiveness, doubt, a weak relationship with the Holy Spirit, and passivity can hinder that power. Jesus assures us that His purpose is for us to experience life in abundance (John 10:10) and that the kingdom of God is not just about words but about power (1 Corinthians 4:20). Yet, these barriers can cause us to miss out on the fullness of that power.

To break through these barriers, we must first address unforgiveness. Mark 11:24-25 teaches that if we harbor unforgiveness, it can block our prayers and hinder God’s power in our lives. Mindsets of doubt also stifle the supernatural. Jesus said that with faith, even as small as a mustard seed, we could move mountains (Matthew 17:20). A lack of belief or unresolved doubts about the power of the Holy Spirit can prevent us from walking in the fullness of God's power. Furthermore, a lack of relationship with the Holy Spirit is a significant barrier. Galatians 5:16 encourages us to walk in the Spirit, yet many believers struggle with un-convicted hearts, failing to respond to the Holy Spirit’s guidance in daily life. Finally, passivity is a key issue. Jesus promised that if we seek Him, we will find Him (Matthew 7:7). To truly experience the supernatural, we must actively pursue God, stepping into a deeper, more intentional relationship with Him through prayer, fasting, and a willingness to surrender.
